Tens of thousands of people kick off one of the best holiday lights displays in Southern California each year by flooding into downtown Riverside the day after Thanksgiving for the annual switch-on ceremony outside the historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa. But because demand for this amazing event is so high that night and all through the holidays, traffic usually is quite heavy when exiting Highway 91 at either Mission Inn Avenue or University Avenue, the exits closest to the venue. What are your strategies for getting in and out of the FOL as easy as possible? Come down early for lunch and spend the day hitting antique stores and other shops?
